1. Personalised training for governing bodies

PERSONALISED TRAINING FOR GOVERNING BODIES

External reviews of Governance are a core service. Our approach is:

  • To identify the strengths and weaknesses in the role of the GB and how it can improve. Reviews look for, and identify, the evidence, which helps governors demonstrate the impact they have on raising achievement.
  • Outcomes of the reviews identify clear action points to help the governing body to improve effectiveness. Further training requirements are identified.

Training Course:

Incyte, in association with our partner PCG Advisory Services, are running three courses for governing bodies. These are interactive and personalised courses that enable a governing body to develop better self-evaluation skills and to better understand the strengths and areas for improvement within their school. It enables them to more effectively challenge and support the school’s leaders without over stepping the mark.
We tailor courses to specific governing body requirements. All our experienced trainers prepare for their courses through in depth conversation with the Chair of the governing body and the Headteacher. They also request access to the school’s data so that they can fully understand the school’s context.

2. Achieving and sustaining outstanding teaching

ACHIEVING AND SUSTAINING OUTSTANDING TEACHING

Teachers and managers alike often look pleadingly to inspectors for guidance of what outstanding actually looks like and feels like and what strategies they seek.

This course is delivered by an inspector but modelling subliminal approaches that delegates can adopt for any age group, key stage and ability.

  • Defining what outstanding is and what is it not.
  • Getting to grips with the framework Ofsted inspectors use to evaluate the quality of ‘teaching and learning’.
  • Identifying and sharing better practice and developing what works to become what inspires
  • Recognising actions for own personal development.

3. Achieving outstanding learning (Primary)

ACHIEVING OUTSTANDING LEARNING (PRIMARY)

  • This one day course enables teachers, school leaders and teaching support staff in primary schools to develop a professional mind-set which places LEARNING at the centre of all practice in the classroom. It can be provided as a delegate course, an in-school course, within a local authority or within a school cluster or academy chain.
  • Putting learning first in all discussions, observations, evaluation, professional development and performance management moves thinking away from a preoccupation with teaching as ‘a performance’ towards a clear and unequivocal focus on the provision of the very best of well high quality learning opportunities for all pupils in the school’s care.
  • Changing the professional focus in classrooms and across the school frees colleagues to develop as reflective, proactive practitioners, equipped with the understanding and skills to evaluate and improve learning and develop their expertise.
  • Using the Ofsted criteria for teaching as a starting point for evaluating learning and the effective teaching that brings it about, participants will also consider outstanding learning and what this will look like in their school.
  • Valuable time will also be given to reflection and consideration of personal practice and specific ways in which colleagues can work together to further improve learning and teaching in their school.
  • The course will be delivered in an interactive style – plenty of opportunities for participation, discussion and sharing! Using pertinent lesson observation clips will bring context to discussions.
  • This is not a course for those who are seeking the ‘top ten tips for effective learning’ – but more for those who want to transform the professional mind-set across teaching and learning staff and secure a focus on high quality learning in the school.

DEVELOPING SKILLS IN LESSON OBSERVATION

  2. To provide the analysis and feedback to support continuous improvements in the quality of teaching and learning for all teaching staff and for pupils.

7. Ensuring accurate teaching and learning judgments - aligned to the current Ofsted Framework

ENSURING ACCURATE TEACHING AND LEARNING JUDGEMENTS -
aligned to the current Ofsted Framework

This workshop explores how the current framework aligns to observation schemes in order to review your current systems for driving forward improvements. This day is not about how you make those judgements but the model for finding the opportunities to observe learning sessions.

The day will invite delegates to explore the opportunities that may be currently overlooked, the rationale for carrying out observations and to what degree they are themed. It will provide the chance for delegates to consider supportive models for observations with intentions of developing new observers to the team primarily to share better practice.

  • Identify the current rationale for observing sessions and what systems currently exist.
  • Explore the expectations of the Ofsted framework to critique current systems and philosophies with a view to improving.
  • Extract better practice and ineffective practice from Ofsted reports.
  • Identify examples of better practice through sharing and case studies.
  • Produce outline schemes for observations to take place.
  • Recognising actions for own personal development.
